How to Clean a Pocket Pussy Properly
Let’s be real about this. If you own a pocket pussy, whether you bought one or tried making your own using our guide to DIY options, and you are not cleaning it the right way, you are basically asking for trouble down the track. It is not just about keeping things fresh. It is about keeping things safe. A dirty toy can turn something fun into something that leaves you itchy, irritated, or worse. The good news is that cleaning one is easy once you know the drill. You just have to be consistent.

The Material Matters
Most of these toys are made from a material called TPE. It feels soft and realistic because it is porous. That means it has tiny little holes in it that act like a sponge. Fluids, lube, dead skin cells, they all sink in there. If you do not wash them out properly, bacteria and mold will move in. Once that happens, no amount of surface wiping will fix it. The bacteria are inside the material, and you cannot get them out. That is why cleaning has to happen right after you use it, not an hour later, not in the morning, right away.
How to Actually Clean It
Start by taking it to the sink. Run cool or lukewarm water through the inside. Do not use hot water. Heat can break down the soft material and warp the shape. You want the water pressure to push out the bulk of what is inside. Then you need soap. The best option is a dedicated toy cleaner because it is designed for porous materials. If you do not have that, use a mild unscented antibacterial soap. Scented soaps have perfumes and chemicals that can irritate your skin later.
Work the soap into every part of the inner canal. If the sleeve is sturdy enough and the manufacturer says it is okay, you can gently turn it inside out to reach all the textured ridges. If you cannot turn it, use a soft brush made for cleaning toys. Get in there and scrub. Rinse it until every bit of soap is gone. Leftover soap residue is also an irritant.
The Part Everyone Screws Up
Drying. This is where most people drop the ball. You can wash it perfectly, but if you put it away wet, mold will grow inside within a day or two. You have to dry the inside completely. Pat the outside dry with a lint-free towel. Regular towels leave little fibres stuck to the toy. For the inside, you have options. You can let it sit upright in a well-ventilated spot and let gravity do the work. That takes time. Or you can buy drying rods. They are skinny absorbent sticks you push into the canal to soak up the moisture. Only put it away when the inside feels dry to the touch.
Keeping the Material in Good Shape
Over time, TPE gets sticky. That is normal. It happens because oils in the material rise to the surface. To fix it, you dust the outside with renewing powder or pure cornstarch. Rub it in and let it sit. It brings back that soft, silky feel and stops lint and dust from sticking to it. Do not put powder inside the canal. Just the outside.
Storage Is Not Complicated
Where you store it matters. Do not throw it in a drawer wrapped in a plastic bag. Plastic traps moisture. Use a cotton bag or the case it came in. If you have multiple soft toys, do not let them touch each other. Different materials can react and melt together. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Sunlight degrades the material over time.
When to Throw It Away
Nothing lasts forever. If you use it regularly, expect to replace it every 6 to 12 months. TPE wears out. You will know it is time when it starts to smell even after a deep clean. That smell is bacteria living in the material. If the surface stays sticky even after washing and powdering, the material is degrading. If you see dark spots that will not wash off, that is mold. If there are any tears or holes, throw it away immediately. Bacteria hide in those cracks, and they can pinch your skin.

Using It the Right Way
Always use a lubricant. Never go in dry. Friction damages the inner texture and causes micro tears in the material. Only use water-based lube. Silicone lube will react with TPE and destroy it. And wash it before the first use, even when it is brand new. There is always some manufacturing residue or powder on it.
That is it. Clean it right after, dry it completely, and store it safely. Do that every time, and the pocket pussy will last longer and stay safe to use.
